I want to tell you about my Mentors here. The women that I model myself after and that help me, encourage me, to think outside my little everyday goings on and endure.
First of all, I want to tell you about a dear woman I called upon and really got to know during my time in a spiritual program I share with her. Her name is Harriet Shaw. Now, Harriet has worked building women up, for a majority of her life. She is a 64 year old success story as she has owned and operated businesses most her life and achieved her more than million dollars status in life. Currently, she is a Partner at Keller Williams Realty in the Uptown area of Turtle Creek, Dallas, Texas. She reminds me very much of the dear Dallas Real Estate Icon Ebby Holiday. (I hope I'm spelling correctly, please forgive me if I err.) Harriet is not quite Ebby, but I love and adore the fact that she has taken it upon herself to encourage me, daily, to go above and beyond what I already know. She is a true Mentor and dear friend.
Secondly, I want to tell you about is an amazing experience I just had contacting a REAL BILLIONAIRESS, ladies and gentleman, Sara Blakely of the Spanx fame. I contacted Sara on a whim at her Central Park, NY address. I told her a little about me and shared with her this very website. Now, I'm struggling right now. I sent this letter about a few weeks back, letting it go and not expecting really to ever hear anything back. I was having a moment where I was not doing so well emotionally, and to my surprise a FedEx man came to my door with a package. I was completely dumbfounded and instantly elated. OMG. You would not believe it yourself. Sara Blakely sent me some samples of her newest products, her personal business card, two VERY COOL books by Dr. Wayne Dyer (I am related only in name people not by blood), a printout of her success story, (which is good cause I don't have a printer right now and I can't even afford an internet connection), and a HAND WRITTEN NOTE on her cardstock FROM SARA HERSELF!!! I'm really familiarizing myself with Sara as I relate a lot to her first days in startup.
Previously, I have personally hand-written cards and letters to over 50 Investor Relations Directors, including Microsoft, Wal*Mart, CompuShare, Google, even Disney. None of THOSE people ever bothered to follow up with even a THANK YOU note. The point is, I don't want your money people. I just would like you to take notice. "Here I am!! ! What do you think of me???" Obviously, none of them were interested at the time, and maybe I didn't present well or what have you. Besides, I don't write big long sob stories to everyone, sometimes, I just send a handwritten note with my website offering my services.
Sara shared with me through her note, that she was not trained as a saleswoman. She just believed in herself and her product. She let me know that in her ups and downs of her business, she had great comfort by reading Dr. Wayne Dyer books. The two she sent me where, Wishes Fulfilled and Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life.
Sara, If your watching my little website for updates, THANK YOU FOR YOUR PACKAGE and ENCOURAGING WORDS. Sara's personal story can be seen at Spanx.com under ABOUT SARA. If you want to know more about her, I will tell you her products are GREAT!!! I love my new SPANX sporties that Sara sent me. Sara Blakely Foundation helps women startup businesses and Entrepreneur themselves. This is much like I would like to do to help MHMR patients, specifically schizophrenics, to do in their life with my Nonprofit. It takes a great understanding and an empathetic ear to listen to those who are starting over again in their life from day one. It CAN HAPPEN though, it IS happening to me!
